Were it released by an unknown band it would have been received so much better, but I guess that's the price you pay when you're arguably the most influential metal band of all time. Better quality control over this and ReLoad could have yielded one great album rather than two average ones.

I disagree with that sentiment so much. Reload feels like a B-side album. The songwriting is piss-poor, but an interesting riff here and there helps keep it afloat. Load is a genuine effort and an incredibly bold move.
