I'm starting to think Amnesiac is better than Kid A. To me, it's just a more diverse and powerful album. Kid A is a little sterile to me in some places. Kid A might have more seamless song transitions, but Amnesiac just has this vibe that Kid A doesn't.

sterile's an interesting word. kid a is pretty barren and desolate. singular yet so very powerful.
amnesiac is a bit more scattered but definitely hits more bases. it's more a feeling of getting pulled apart, so there's not one focus but many. definitely tough to adjust to but once you're there, everyone is free to judge as he wishes
tl;dr - cool observation

The whole point of Amnesiac is an anti-flow (though I think the transition from Pyramid Song into Pulk-Pull is fantastic), or so I've heard. All I know is Amnesiac sure doesn't have The National Anthem, or HTDC, or In Limbo, or IDIOTEQUE, OR the better version of Morning Bell.

Did sterile change it's definition to 'greatest sound ever'?
He also forgot Kid a, optimistic and motion picture soundtrack. Every single song except for in limbo i would go amazing lengths to keep in my life.

don't hate on in limbo!
sterile as in barren, and desolate and cold and alone. yea, that's kindof a motif of kid a, which is why more people don't listen to it

Everything In It's Right Place is the absolute perfect opener for Kid A, but it's not one of my favorite Radiohead tracks. I think Radiohead has a great way of opening their albums with a song that is a phenomenal launch pad for the rest of the album but isn't mind-blowingly amazing in and of itself (I find Thrice is good at this, too). This is my favorite kind of album formula instead of completely blowing the doors off for the first track with your best song like a lot of bands do.
NEways
My faves on Amnesiac are Packt Like Sardines, Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Like Spinning Plates and Life In A Glass House. Everything else is cool but not great, whereas everything on Kid A is perfectly placed (imo)

I'll admit it, in limbo's the first track i'm throwing off the ship if i have to.
the positives are it's the shortest track on the lp. plus i love the last 40 seconds, sounds like a spaceship? still greatness though. what's your choice for weakest link andy?

@mothercountry: I was just picking out the absolute highest peaks of the album; I have Kid A at a 5 and I think it's a perfect record, but there's some songs that work for the album more than they do for being an individual song. I think Motion Picture Soundtrack does this. Beyond perfect closer, but I never listen to it by itself.

I know and i was kinda pointing out that i could make a case for 8-9 songs being absolute peaks of the lp. kid a is the 5'iest album i know.
motion picture is a picture perfect album closer. it brings me to tears often and after those first 9 songs there's really not much energy left in me . . . so peaceful.

@caz well, treefingers is simple and kinda interludey. necessary and contributes to flawless flow, but nothing exceptional (motion picture would prbly be next if i HAD to say)
@julian eiirp happens to be my personal fav radiohead track ever, but there's so many worthy of the title, it'd be silly to argue why. like your description of openers as a launchpad -- hadn't quite thought of that before. i see what you're saying with kid a, but don't underrate i might be wrong and knives out too. i might be wrong and knives out bring the album to another level with guitar tracks to balance the electrobeats.
good stuff all around though guys

Gotcha. Yeah it is sort of ridiculous to pick individual songs out of that album. I's fun, 'do.

i give a lot of credit to the guys for designing the album with treefingers smack dab in the middle. there is no better halftime in music, imo. it's amazing to think a song with nothing in it can be adored so much. plus it makes optimistic so much better. a true team player.

Man, I love In Limbo. I find myself listening to it as a standalone track more than most of the songs on Kid A. That arpeggio is just so sexy, and you gotta love that evil soundscape at the end. Sounds like death in musical form or something.
