Yeah if they just put an even mediocre sounding snare in the album it would at least be listenable. I really can’t wrap my head around how everyone in the band, on the production team, with the label, and those otherwise in their close circle that heard the album as it was being made, didn’t raise hell and/or signed off on the album being released with that snare sound. Makes no sense. It’s just objectively fucking awful and abrasive.

yeah i agree with this mentality. i think i've had this at a 3/5 before, maybe even a 3.5/5 when i was younger. but then i hear how needlessly bloated and repetitive "some kind of monster" and "invisible kid" are, and how the same 0-3-5 riff is used on like 7 different songs. there are definitely great moments scattered in chunks across this album.
