I don't think it deserves all the praise it gets. Sounds like just a jumble of screaming and spoken word parts to me.

I'll give it a few more listens, maybe that'll help, don't think this is going on my decade list though.

Listen to it again, only really get into it. Think, chaotic beauty. Very under control, yet wildly unrefined. Pay attention to all of the little details they use, whether it be the really amazing rhythmic usage within the vocals, or a transition from a really loud part to a softer part. Take note of the huge way that it can go from in your face, to gone, and then build up again like a snowball rolling down a hill faster and faster into one chaotic jumbled mess that somehow makes sense. I'm too lazy to type the rest.

Hahaha the troller you mean? It was an instant click with me, like I absolutely just loved everything about it. I've always really just totally dug the part during the Same Shade as Concrete song about 1/2way through where they start to talk about the floods flowing... And then in Nervous Light when they say "dance to the weight of his back fucking breaking" it just hits me hard. Idk. It's really goddamn hard to explain. But once it clicks, you'll know it. Or it won't ever click at all for you.

Hey, we get it, you're a scholarly intellectual and classical music snob that has to snuff all other forms of music. Please just go away.

I actually sent this as an e-mail to Drew Speziale (drew.speziale@gmail.com) of Circle Takes the Square, to which she later responded:

What was her response?

I actually sent this as an e-mail to Drew Speziale (drew.speziale@gmail.com) of Circle Takes the Square, to which she later responded:

Subject: The Apocalypse, the White City, etc.

Drew Speziale,

Your band, Circle Takes the Square, has a song by the title of "A Non-Objective Portrait of Karma." This titular "non-objectivity" you describe must in some sense be a reference to the concept developed by the brilliant Russian Suprematist painter and intellectual Kazimir Malevich around 1915. It's either that or you're saying that it's "subjective" (id est, ~O). If it is a reference to Malevich, I demand that you retract it immediately, as your song's association with his deathless work can only act as a shitstain on an otherwise pristine legacy.

Quite obviously, I do not like your band. I suspect that you must yourself be cynically aware of the way Circle Takes the Square cultivates an aura of pseudo-authenticity. This is accomplished by its lo-fi "rawness," its deliberately "unexpected" transitions, and its seemingly "heartfelt" lyrics. You simulate depth but it's really just trickery and illusion, a trompe l'oeil. All that is really produced is hateful vacuity. There is no sophistication to your music, only ceaseless buttfucking into the smegma of Time.

YOU ARE THE COSMIC TWAT. Your wretched complicity with the forces of cultural degeneration and Unreason is accursed of the LORD. Renounce this horseshit; go forth and sin no more.

I am, etc.,
Agesilaus Santander
