We cannot hope to understand these things; we should only behold the wonder.

Egarran now that I'm reading Stephen King's The Dark Tower you remind me of Roland a little bit. And I mean this in the most positive way.

Have you read it?

No, I have mixed feeling towards King and it looks sooo looong. Should I?

Also, ha! https://www.reddit.com/r/ToolBand/comments/ox8b6p/invincible_always_makes_me_think_of_roland/

Well, I don't know. Almost finished with part 3. Part 2 was AMAZING, part 1 was a strange fever dream, part 3 is a little slower. But I love his style, so there's that. It's 4,500 pages in total, so maybe skip on that, but I'd say 1 and 2 are worth it for sure.

Which King have you read? I've previously read Misery and The Institute, which I both loved big time.

Great thread there. Tool + Reddit = Quality.

I have read Misery, Cujo and Desperation and seen too many King movies.

You should maybe watch Midnight Mass, it has strong King vibes.

Did you enjoy Misery? I think I finished it in two days because I was so hooked.

I've watched many movies based on his stuff, just because there are soooooooo many so he's kind of hard to ignore. I'm not sure if movies based on his stuff are a good representation of his books though.

Oh most King movies are terrible apart from The Shining. Haven't seen Carrie yet.

Misery was great. Actually the movie was also fine.

I think you would appreciate the first two Dark Tower novels then. There's a similar sense of urgency about them, but then of course in a fantasy setting. They're nothing like it, in fact, but they could work.

The Shining (movie) was awesome agreed. And the movie from Misery was cool indeed, but something that made the novel so excellent did get lost in translation I feel.

Misery is a near flawless read imo.

IT, The Stand and Dark Tower are probably his greatest literary achievements, but I'll take Misery over them any day of the week. I'm also actually a really big fan of Gerald's Game, which was a much better character exploration than I expected.

Yeah that book was superb. Couldn't and did not want to put it down. Really impressed with how I actually missed Annie when the book was finished, what a brilliant character.

I would never have guessed you were a King fan.

Now I feel I should read more King.

He tends to get the reputation of a transitory obsession, as young adults want to get into more serious reading they inevitably start with him. People tend to forget he's got some seriously good stuff out there, amidst a fair amount of meh.

Never heard that. Only that his writing was fueled by cocaine and alcohol.

Don't believe so, he's one of the most prolific writers in existence as far as I know (which to be fair isn't far). Heard an interview with King and the GoT guy where King said he averages about seven pages a day. He also has a few books under the name Richard Bachmann iirc.

I can see this. I went through a King/Koontz phase and he's a good storyteller but I don't remember his writing being "literature", although it's better than the average Sidney Sheldon or Jeffrey Archer.

My buddy got free Tool tickets for me and a few other friends for Sunday. Pretty stoked to see em although unfortunately the setlist is a lot of this album. I saw them in 2012 so it'll be interesting to see em again now.

You will appreciate this album more after seeing them play 6 of these songs. My gripe was the lack of energy for the opener...

Lol, I still got this at a 5

Back then doof said he would do something stupid that I can't remember if this album ever reaches an average of 3.9, so that's where my rating comes from
