I just keep seeing it everywhere. "Where would metallica be without lars brilliant business mind?!"

I just really don't think the dude is this genius the fans are making him out to be. The industry itself did the heavy lifting

Lol for real every time I see you post in Metallica threads it's about trashing Lars. Almost seems like there's some inferiority complex going on or something

Honestly, I really don't hate lars. I just think a lot is attributed to him personally that isn't based in reality. It's just like... regurgitated fan "facts." But I really don't think its hate hate, its just casual hate. I've learned a ton of metallica drum parts because I thought they were cool

I thought I would catch these cats for the last time in their Australia 25 tour but the cheapest ticket was $500...

Also obligatory: how did Lars stop people from illegally downloading metallica's music? they stopped writing music worth listening to

I ended up forking out 300 for a ticket to Sydney. They haven’t toured here since 2010 except 1 show at Soundwave in 2013. How many thousand shows have they done since 2010. Incredible not to properly tour Oz in 15 years

I haven’t really listened to them properly in 15+ years but it would be a coda to my childhood to see them live since they inspired my to play guitar and my goal was to play songs like blackened and sanitarium and one and for a while I could… now I just strum the acoustic and try to convince myself that my taste has changed and it’s definitely not that I can no longer play that shit

You know this album is boring and inessential when it's the least rated studio album in their career (even less than Lulu !!) on all rating sites by a huge margin

I mean metallica wait 7-9 years to release albums that are adequate at best. After 25+ of this shit people stop caring. I still don’t think this album is bad at all, i think it has plenty of fun stuff. But it’s too little progress for so many years.

Yea like at least when they were putting out messy disasterpieces in the eyes of the fans it was so notorious people had to look. This is just... completely inessential. No point in hearing this when it is just the same stuff as the last retreaded with worse hooks and flatter performances.

i still think james sounds great and he is mainly the one that keeps me interested. inamorta is quite good. they would do a killer slower melodic album with his weathered voice now. give me a modern take on load.

Not a bad shout, a slower album could be interesting if it was presented the right way and they mixed up the writing enough

two years removed... this album is entirely made by its back half. i especially love the closing trio.

the first half to me feels like all bloat. album really does not kick into gear until lux aeterna imo and i think that's its biggest problem. sleepwalk and you must burn are especially nauseating being put back to back like that

some of the best vocals and lyrics james ever wrote here and the production is actually pretty decent by 21st century metallica standards. i think too far gone/room of mirrors feels like a great send off for them writing thrash. if they make another album, inamorata and crown of barbed wire is the direction i hope they go in

100% agree with this. "Crown of Barbed Wire" is one of of my favorite Metallica songs in a while.

Was relistening to this today and I'm still shocked at how this has a 3 on this site. It's literally just a bunch of stale riffs frankensteined together. Zero dynamics, just generic riffs and bone-simple drumming with Hetfield barking generic heavy metal subject matter (fire! hate! darkness!) over. The only actual songs that sound like they had any thought put into them are the title track and Too Far Gone, maybe Shadows Follow too. And as bad as the foundational elements are, Kirk manages to top it all with some truly abysmal lead guitar, the man isn't even trying anymore.

Zero artistic motivation from these guys anymore, they'd be better off not releasing anything and continuing to tour.

"they'd be better off not releasing anything and continuing to tour."

Clearly that's not true. Releasing albums has not been detrimental to them at all, and they obviously enjoy doing it. So, why would they be better off?
