Dracul seemed to go the route of Reptile to me in this release, and it's super good but doesn't quite win me over at some bits, same way I feel about Everything Is Fine, it kinda feels like a chore to listen to it

Oh, don't even get me started on periphery! It's just a never-ending cycle of overhyped mediocrity. They're like the Nickelback of progressive metal, churning out formulaic songs that are designed to be catchy and accessible, rather than genuinely innovative or challenging.
Sure, they might have some technical prowess and flashy production values, but where's the soul? Where's the depth? Where's the emotional resonance that truly great music can evoke?
It's like they're trying to be a jack-of-all-trades, but in doing so, they've become a master of none. Their music is neither heavy nor intricate enough to satisfy the prog purists, nor is it melodic or memorable enough to appeal to a wider audience.
And don't even get me started on their live shows. The amount of backing tracks and pre-recorded parts they use is just embarrassing. It's like they're not even playing their own music, just going through the motions while a laptop does all the heavy lifting.
In short, periphery represents everything that's wrong with modern metal. It's sterile, calculated, and devoid of any real artistic vision. It's music for people who want to look cool and edgy without actually challenging themselves or engaging with the genre on a deeper level.
So, excuse me if I don't jump on the periphery bandwagon. I'll take my prog metal with a side ofheart, thank you very much.

"Oh, don't even get me started on periphery! It's just a never-ending cycle of overhyped mediocrity. They're like the Nickelback of progressive metal, churning out formulaic songs that are designed to be catchy and accessible, rather than genuinely innovative or challenging."
At this point their formula is running thin, and I will fully admit that.
"Sure, they might have some technical prowess and flashy production values, but where's the soul? Where's the depth? Where's the emotional resonance that truly great music can evoke?"
I personally think tracks like Dying Star have quite a bit of soul in there, the song is beautiful and it's sentiment is equally as such.
"It's like they're trying to be a jack-of-all-trades, but in doing so, they've become a master of none. Their music is neither heavy nor intricate enough to satisfy the prog purists, nor is it melodic or memorable enough to appeal to a wider audience."
I just kinda fully agree there, I think an album with all tracks like "Everything is Fine" would be great, currently that just jump from interpretation to interpretation of what a Periphery sounding song would sound like in the given style, the schtick is getting really old now.
"And don't even get me started on their live shows. The amount of backing tracks and pre-recorded parts they use is just embarrassing. It's like they're not even playing their own music, just going through the motions while a laptop does all the heavy lifting."
A lot of bands do this Periphery is not an outlier, your favorite band probably has some sort of backing track in their live show, no matter how small. Well they are playing their own music, there's 3 guitarists playing right in front of your eyes, and a drumming goin' off as well.
