First impression on the new album: It's solid as usual when it comes to this band, but I'm not particularly impressed. Reminds me of All We Love We Leave Behind but less ambitious. Second half is where it's at.

“ Make Me Forget You,” the band’s most emotionally direct moment since A Dusk in Us’s “A Single Tear,” is both brutal and deeply beautiful, suggesting that even under the weight of relentless despair, our shared humanity is the only thing that keeps us going.”

oh this album is gonna destroy me isn’t it

A couple more listens and yeah it's full half hour power. I just wish it was longer but damn it's a solid, solid album front to back. This band, man...

New album is alright based on one listen. Halfway through my second listen.

Maybe we can add Eve and Beautiful Ruin to make it feel longer

Are there any tracks that break up the flow a little? Like a thousands of miles between us style track? Or even something like Coral Blue?

Beyond Repair isn't really a song but an atmospheric guitar only instrumental that leads into the slow and sludgy Amon Amok, one of the better songs on the album. Gilded Cage is pretty surprising and different for Converge standards. That one caught me by surprise.

I don’t really think they’re past their prime tbh… AWLWLB might be my favorite album of theirs and Dusk had some incredible tracks too. A Single Tear really might be the emotional high point of their career, specifically the ascending guitar leads around 2:20, and Eve is obviously just astonishing.

If ya don’t fuck with Bloodmoon, I get it, but I still think almost objectively that it’s still a very finely crafted record. Crimson Stone is probably their best “slow” song and Lord of Liars is ridiculous tbh, because Chelsea fronting one of the most frenetic instrumentals in their entire discography should not sound so good.

Scorpion Sting is really the only weak point imo, because aside from the solo it literally just sounds like Chelsea and Ben would cook up on their own during the Abyss/Hiss Spun era.

Coil is also very cool too, I love the vocal harmonies and would love to hear them toy with more symphonic elements in the future… which is not something I’d ever expect myself to say considering how much I really don’t fuck with symphonic metal

I thought it was ridiculous the first time I heard it but yeah, it’s fucking phenomenal man. I for sure think there’s some weaker moments, Flower Moon specifically really feels like it doesn’t fit, but there’s just so much here to love that it doesn’t bother me

It’s so goddamn good dude. If I were ever to do a full on Converge song ranking it would almost definitely land in the top 5.

Something else I just thought of, it’s so crazy that this band is so well known for their technical acrobatics and absolutely insane performances but when they slow it down it’s almost always just as good if not better… Eve, In Her Shadow, Phoenix in Flight, like half the songs on this fuckin thing, all are just fucking mint.

I’m convinced these guys could try to make some mainstream bullshit and still pull it off. Wildlife manages to have one of the catchiest choruses in all of extreme metal despite not having a single sung line across the entire thing.

fucking GOAT band, finally will get to listen here in about an hour. This is gonna sound corny but as much as life sucks a lot of the time, I truly feel privileged to exist in a time where these guys are active and touring. No other band can capture some of the darker emotions I have so well.

Idk I’m about 20 mgs deep and ready to crack open a six pack for this fuckin record… are there lyrics up anywhere yet?

final thoughts: if humanity survives I truly believe people will still be talking about this band in a hundred years. Truly one of the most talented and influential heavy bands out there.

It’s a dumb saying but it rings true: you listen to metal, your favorite band’s favorite band is Converge.
