Mythodea is a true fan... yeah, the guy is amazing and his band is definitely on the top of the game for many years now
(but please, Brann, let troy be the lead singer when you get a television spot)

I honestly don't know how you can say his singing on this album is bad. Explain yourself.

To me, Brann sounds like he needs to re-think the way in which he sings, i.e. he hasn't found the best way to use his voice. As far as I am concerned, his timbre could be used with much more effect, and that generally, his current style makes him sound whiney and quite sloppy, like he's singing while cooking or something. Raising your soft palette consistently and getting the breath while seated is particularly hard. Go and watch them live, he clearly struggles with these things.
To be honest, I do feel like it is more case-by-case, and so my blanket statement is a bit harsh. His I FORGE AHEAD UNSCARRREEEEEDDD in Skeleton of Splendor is just irritating when it repeats at the end, meanwhile I appreciate his singing in Eyes of Serpents because I feel like he does the delicate, heartfelt, longing passages very well.
My opinion is heavily swayed by the fact that Brann was my inspiration for taking up the drums, and I feel there has been a clear decline in the quality of his drumming since CtS. In it's place, I get to watch him gasp for breath live and barely keep up with relatively simple beats. As such, I not only feel his singing is overall bad, but that it actively comes at the expense of his drumming creativity. With all that, I don't feel like its a MASSIVE issue, it doesn't ruin albums. It just ruins the live performances (which, lets be honest, Mastodon have long been hit-and-miss for anyway) and that the "wow" moments I used to have with Brann's drumming are no longer something I can expect from Mastodon, which saddens me.
TL;DR - I am butthurt that I don't like Brann's new approach to singing and that his formerly spectacular drumming has suffered as a result of not only his increased vocal duties, but that he is overall less focused on what the drums can do for the band.

“I presume he actually sings "the peace we lost in ourselves and never found" and it's a typo on the lyric sheet. That way the sentence would make sense.”
Oh duh I don’t know why that didn’t cross my mind that absolutely makes sense.
