Lights on the Hill is really good

Gone through this one twice now. Great listen. Very much like The Ocean, Isis, Pelican etc, A bit atmospheric. Changes come in waves. Very dynamic overall. Great overall mood and feeling.

Also did my first listen today. Was pleasantly surprised, Cult of Luna was one of those Bands i should have checked out since ages, they got everything that i should enjoy. And yeah i really enjoyed this record on my first run. Especially the bass on this album sounded absolutely amazing to me, really loved that.

fml, i didn't even know Pelican had a new one. I better get back to grinding the music game more again. this is getting pretty ridiculous already. what would i do without good ol' sputnik, that mention just came at the right time

I can't blame anyone for disliking the vocal style, but within the genre they're definitely up there with the most impactful I've heard. Idk what the guy's experience is with bands of this ilk, I imagine it might not be particularly extensive. My interpretation of this is based solely on Sputnik and the users that are interested in his views, so perhaps this is misleading.

I haven't listened to too much CoL yet but the vocals sound like perfectly good post metal vocals to me
Btw how vocal heavy is their music in general? I usually tend to like the instrumental sections more

they’re as sparse with the vocals as Isis is

He means how often are they used, or how vocally-focused is CoL in general. They definitely incorporate many long instrumental breaks, so if you're not a huge fan of the vox, there is some respite. I find the vocals more impactful due to the numerous instrumental builds, they tend to be reserved for crushing crescendos.

‘usually reserved for crescendos’ lol that’s a generalized no, but they def use em where they matter

I mean they use them for all sorts of reasons, but the 'harsher' vox (i.e. the type that are harder to digest for some people) are frequently used in such moments, which you'd expect in all honesty. I don't think they are over-used, or used throughout, it's at opportune moments where a certain emphasis is needed (like you said: 'where they matter'). I didn't say 'usually' btw, I did say 'tend' but perhaps that was an exaggeration.

I don't mind harsh vocals, i just like it when they are used in a fashion where it is not overbearing and the music still gets room to breath. From what i've heard CoL seems to place their vocals in a way that i like quite a bit

I respect the guy, but his taste in metal/hardcore is kinda shit
