if your claim is that she has nothing to do with those artists then just do your research lol

if it's that "adjacent" is imprecise as a term then fine

how did you get a claim out of a question?

I literally just don't know how she is pc music adjacent. Is it via affiliation with the label and a.g. cook? or do you mean her music is pc music adjacent? because if you mean the latter I disagree big.

she's definitely less ironic/reflexive/whatever and more conventional than most pc music products but I'd say there's some stylistic associations--I might be biased because I know a lot of people who are fans of both tho

but I meant it more as a get-colton-up-to-speed gesture to where she's "at" now, and that's probably more an issue of literal association (a.g. cook produced some of Pang and Harle [is he "adjacent" himself, or a part of the core?] produced a bunch of it, as u kno)

maybe it's more like someone like charli is "PC Music-adjacent" and caroline polachek is another degree of separation

hmm, i kinda get what you are saying but the idea of any of a myriad of pop sub genres being conflated with PC Music artists just for having some pitched up glitchy synths bothers me. People already treat PC Music like it's a genre.

But if a.g. and harle produced for Pang i obviously can't exactly outright deny that you are hearing any similarities in the production.

You really overestimate my music knowledge cause I have no idea what PC Music or AG Cook are but I appreciate the gesture lol. There’s also a chance I thought melisma means melodic charisma... not confirming or denying

on an aside while talking about Caroline

"So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" is such a great song title

i definitely remember seeing it pop up in one of my friends' Spotify I'm-listening-to-this-right-now thing that it shows me weirdly every time I open the computer app for spotify and I was like...yeah I'll click on that song title

Don't think PC Music specifically owns any type of "Melisma", or pitch tuning, or anything. All that stuff has already been there. PC Music is distinguishable more by aesthetic/concept than an actual sound imo. There is nothing to me about Peng that can't be accurately described in sub-genres rather than associations.

youre probably right. I'd say more (now--maybe I was misrepresenting myself earlier) that AG Cook and co. (who I think it's fair to say represent at least the uh...business interests of PC Music) stumbled upon a great...ok I dont want to objectify or anything but a great sort of "instrument" for their production style. they already really liked the sort of "alienating" effect that vocal modulation can have on a singer's personality and polachek is one of the few singers to me who genuinely approximates that effect naturally so it was nice n serendipitous, however they met

I guess maybe who knows Im sort of spitballin here drinkin my big beer

Ngl i don't really hear anything too special about her voice personally. I like her tho.

Have you heard Oklou - Galore?

nah never man. maybe I'm biased by that "party" cover video: her voice sounds positively insane to me, doing things in the 99.5% percentile of good singers (which isnt to say that she's better than all those other singers? but that it's very unique to see live). something about the way she hits the notes and the smoothness of the transitions between notes. not all of it is tonally perfect tho
