Might have to give this another try as I've been enjoying their debut recently, though the vocals are still giving me kind of a hard time. I remember this feeling kind of overblown in an offputting way.

If u think the lead singer in an emo band is the worst part of the band maybe this just isn't the band for u (:

I mean vocalists are the biggest barrier for me in loving emo so yeah.

Yuhhh I mean his vocals and lyrics are p critical esp in the first album in terms of emotional impact, which is why I listen to it honestly. Not a lot of advice for ya on listening to emo music but I just prefer when the singer is unapologetically themselves in terms of lyrics and vocal performances. Wouldn't you want someone a little rough around the edges but genuine sounding rather than another cookie cutter "perfect" vocalist to accompany emotionally tinged indie punk music???

If your answer is no then emo music is prob not for u. Maybe light listen to city and colour or dashboard confessional

Ah I think you misunderstand a bit, I’m not talking about the genre in general but about specific artists. Like basically I dig it musically but it’s the vocalist who decides whether I’m on board or not. I’ve been jamming this band’s debut (and emo in general - dig my Hotelier rating) pretty hard this week and I’ve mostly come around on the vocals on that one. The lyrics are good but I do think (on that album at least, if not necessarily this) the vocals are the weakest link. Mostly it’s the times he tries to be Jonsi that bother me.

I feel u, if u don't mind the throaty-er shit hotelier does there's a lot of shit like that (free throw, glocca morra, prince daddy, etc) but if ur just more accustomed to pleasant sounding vocals that don't often stray into "cringe" ig def check Origami Angel's newest it's sick.
Curious why you're jamming all these emo albums though boney...

nah origami angel's vocals def can be a turn off, i've seen people complain about them

Yeah Oso Oso is great. Not entirely sure what prompted my small emo binge currently.

Conor is one of the very very few emo singers who can actually, ya know, sing
So this 1000% just isn't the genre for you Boney
