saaaaaame but I'm in between them right now

This band would be better if they dropped the generic post-rock influences. A Flood of Light is the only time it seems to work. I don't get why they blew up with this album when there last was better at times. Also Alma Mater was a snooze fest of generic metalcore

Also the Hollow Hours intro is straight ripped from Aerials SOAD
|
| |
It sounds similar but it isn't the exact same thing

There is a certain similarity yes but the notes are not the same and Hollow Hour incorporate more instruments in its intro.

I'm not one to point out strange ratings, but a 1.5 for this seems kinda harsh no?
|

I'm not even a fan of SOAD. Havn't heard them in years. The second i heard Hollow Hour's I knew it was familiar. I made the connection because someone else pointed it out in a yt comment. So no, I'm not grasping for straws.

Who cares SOAD are overrated anyway OHHHH
But no i just never got into SOAD, The Hollow Hour and Aerials have entirely different feels in their intro, and they don't even display the same melody, the only similarity at all is that their both played in down picked ascending triplets

Generic metalcore riffage, highly derivative of The Dillinger Escape Plan. Sappy acoustic reverb post rock sections that wouldn't be out of place on a Deafheaven or Explosions in the Sky album. The only thing that set this band apart early on was their use of synths. (many reference genghis tron which I don't think is fair). Lately the synths haven't been such a focus. Their last album was interesting in that they went further in a jazz/classical direction but here there is nothing. This band is really hit or miss for me
