Stoked to hear new one. Just lol at all these publications rushing reviews out without jamming repeatedly and hard first

I'm thinking it might be his best haha. I don't love Emma as much as everyone else does. I'll have to listen to the second one again to be sure. This gets a nod of approval but that's about it.

This dude really should have worked ‘Repave’ into a Bon Iver album - just seems silly its better than these last two

More signs of life than these last two Bon Iver albums for me - this new one after three listens nothing has stuck really, two songs of the desired quality? That's about it.

An artist not playing to his strengths imo but others like 'Bon Iver the groundbreaking producer' so he probably made the right career move.

I still think the self titled was genius and the only thing that really made me think he had something very special. Half of 'Emma' was really well written too.

Producing is a better payed gig, less troubling too, no touring, no pressure, so definitely the right choice for him.

I really don't know what to expect going into the new record. This one didn't really do anything at all for me. I absolutely love For Emma and s/t

What do we mean by Bon Iver the producer? Vernon is still writing, playing guitar, singing and producing, the band have just expanded in terms of sound, incorporating electronic textures and becoming more collaborative in nature. Don't think it's too different to how the self-titled was conceived -- at least not in terms of Vernon's level of involvement, and the band still certainly tour -- although there is of course a shift in sound and ethos.

I mean that with his more recent work the production is the focus - he isn't writing songs as great as 'Re: Stacks' anymore, he isn't even trying to.

Seems like he is trying to innovate with sounds above songs...I am aware others will disagree.

For someone who hates the James Blake debut...it's all a bit painful. Fourth listen and I'm rating the tracks on RYM as I go...it isn't looking good. When you actually focus on individual tracks it all gets that much more airy fairy

It's about as poor as expected.

Yes, now finding it poorer than this one. I like Naeem and am giving that song an optimistic 5 rating - the rest I can take or leave.

Sh,Dia is nice enough but mainly for the instrumental sections which honestly are still pretty standard. It's just not a good album. At all.

Somehow the title “22, a million” angers me

It definitely doesn't show puny prog-core bands how to play real music, agreed. 2/5

Naturally an obvious joke, but I suppose it's not as evident when a nerve gets touched ;)

It's simply a nebulous product much in the way this was. Very little substance holds it down, and the things that can be enjoyed are cut off far too quickly before they may actually develop. The instrumental content is down by the wayside, not to mention Justin's consistently abysmal vocal deliveries/autotune shenanigans and a decline in lyrical content.

Prime quality you say? Well I suppose I've managed to surpass i, i in that case, though the bar is rather low.
