It really might’ve been their best for me if it sounded like Radical. That album sounds fucking MASSIVE

Yeah I agree the production on this album is a bit off. Kinda what's keeping me from bumping it to a 4.5 unfortunately.
The songs are smack city tho

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks that. I feel like I rarely see it get brought up.
I wonder what the deal was, Kurt has a very specific sound to his records imo. Punchy and raw, but still somehow comes out sounding polished. I don’t even know how he does it… this is easily his worst sounding record that I can think of. It sounds so fucking dry.

A rare Kurt L indeed. I'm just not huge on how the drums sound on this album. Still rules obviously and the songs hit like a truck but there's just something off about the final mix here for some reason.
Guess it's all preference tho I mean I love how Ex Lives sounds and I see more production complaints towards that alb than any other in their discog

This band sounds far better with a lean sound than with the stodgy palette Putney fixed them with (especially for this album, which is all elbows and knees to begin with) - Radical rly do be the most bloated record in every sense
If we're looking at Ballou prod fuckups, Hiss Spun is sitting right there

Hot Damn-NJA will forever be my fav era ETID for that reason. I thought Radical did a pretty good job of hitting a middle ground of "modern" and older ETID production

I think Hiss Spun sounds fine : /

The mix just needs more bass otherwise I feel like it's one of their better production jobs

This is when Keith really stepped his vocals up for sure. I think I read that he blew his voice out and then recorded all of these vocals in one or two days. Sounds way more manic than usual, for the better. Low Teens and Radical also have that manic sound to them.

I'm surprised at the negative reactions to the production. This was one of their best sounding albums at the time of its release. I mean NJA and Ex-Lives are amongst my favs and their production is seriously lacking
