Not a fan of First Fragment or Inferi either tbh. The Path of Apotheosis is ok though.

This is entirely different from Necrophagist. And Muenzner only recorded solos for this, the composition and all the riffs are Bryssling's.

Frankly, Necrophagist is generic wanky childplay compared to this.

I do like First Fragment tho, but then they're Spawn inspired.

Muenzner himself was pretty clear about it on his FB page back in the day

the orchestral synth-y effects along with the guitars on the closer go together like skittles and fish

Agree that the term wank(y) needs to be phased out. something can be “wanky” and also be substantial. Meaningless and lazy when used as a criticism, IMO

Also agree that the closer is the weakest song on this album, mostly because I don’t like how they decided to be really obvious about the classical / baroque influences. Anyone with ears can hear it in the structures - no need to make it so glaring. It would be much better without the orchestral implements. Interesting that the song is the highest rated in RYM though, so it’s cool that most people like it.

Good at their instruments is what these lads are.

Agree on the orchestral parts in the last track being rather redundant.

First Fragment is really good, but Spawn of Possession still reigns supreme. We’ll see how that new FF album fares tho

Even though I love lead guitar shredding, Muenzner's solos are the worst part of this album to me. The solo of Spiritual Deception is probably the worst offender as it's set up to be the climax of the song, but falls flat due to how generic/boring it is compared to the stuff that comes before it.
