Starless genuinely might be the best song ever made, still floors me every time I listen to it.

It is certainly up there.
I'm almost convinced that it could be psycho-scientifically(?) proven that a great song is made even greater by being the last track, a 'grand finale' if you will. Everything preceding it has an amplified importance just by association and the journey is simply more engrossing, knowing what's to come. And by placing it at the end, nothing 'inferior' is attempting to follow its greatness.

Yeah, I'd agree that there's nothing I've heard in my life that I'd say was "better". There's other examples of perfection, but I wouldn't argue... it's a song I heard when listening to this album as a teenager, going in blind without any pre-hype or prejudice, and my jaw hit the floor then. Absolutely, unbelievably astonishing.

dudes, those Steven Wilson & Fripp mixes on vinyl are the best. I own RED and Larks' Tongues In Aspic, and they sound spectacular.

is the s/t actually the weakest track? I think it might be
S: Starless
A: Fallen Angel, Providence
A-: One More Red Nightmare
B: Red
S doesn’t do Starless justice, top 10 track of all-time, easy. Providence is a grower and I could live inside the last 20 minutes. Sets-up Starless beautifully but it’s beautifully serene in itself. Idk why Red has grown off me a tad, it’s essentially a long instrumental of guitar worship with a couple of interesting twists but it’s mostly not essential for what’s to come, at least musically (if not thematically). Idk, would probably have prefered a more ambient / understated jazzy piece to open this. I’m shocked.

'Red' (the track) is/was heavier than any heavy metal of the time.
