Maybe I just need to relisten to this through a third or fourth time but tbh i don't see how Stars Are Projectors can be the main attraction here when you have Life Like Weeds, it's practically the closer and sounds totally like the "Fade Out" of this album

Like Life Like Weeds just perfectly summarizes their first 3 records to me, it's like the suicide note at the end of a long novel

Life Like Weeds is incredible yea; such an amazing finale, even though What People Are Made Of is actually the last song.

Don't really get people calling Life Like Weeds the "finale" tbh, I think having What People Are Made Of immediately after is perfect

"The ebow part fucking floored me the first time I listened to this album"

ebow?

The part that blew my mind was when the second part of the song came up on first listen and he started chocking up on his words. I did not expect such a heart wrenching vocal performance, I literally started chocking up ;(

It's an epic ending and kind of encapsulates the album's themes, whereas the real closer is a pretty brief, energetic rock song.

Yeah Life Like Weeds should have been the last song tbh

There's a couple of other albums that have that problem

nah I think it would have been odd as the final track. It ends very open-endedly. What People Are Made Of wraps things up nicely.

What? That's exactly why it would be a great track to end off on!

Then again I'm apparently weird for thinking Lucky should have been the closer instead of The Tourist....

Life Like Weeds would've been an incredible album closer, and I find What People Are Made Of to be a very comical way of ending it.

yeah tbh i think what people are made of is a little weak...

tbh a lot of t his album is to me. it's like the BHAR of Modest Mouse. So many weak songs that just don't hit and just feel like 'another rock song' or 'another slow song'

but the majority hit i guess

What People Are Made Of took a while to grow on me, but the way it breaks all the slow contemplation as the album's final statement just feels essential now, like part of the point is that the band spends an hour ruminating and all they come up with is some yelping and "people ain't made of nothin' but water and shit." That's just brilliant to me.

'ebow?'

http://www.ebow.com/home.php

I don't know if that's for sure what they're using there but it's the same idea

it's about four minutes in though

but yeah it's basically just that whole section. that sparse part, the awesome vocal performance, and then when that sparse part comes back in again. so gorgeous
