I would prefer to have non-painted frets for the aesthetic of it but honestly... they're a lifesaver.

painted frets are definitely an advantage for someone who's never played one before. i respect you though, for taking the slow path; it must be quite a trip.

What's your main bass?
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
main bass is a 4 string warwick corvette in black and the fretless another corvette in natural wood finish, borrowing it from my uncle but am considering buying it off him.
ive got a squier p bass lying around which is actually quite contrary to popular belief.
yourself?

5 string Ibanez SDGR (black) and a Fender Jazz fretless bass (sunburst, no pick guard) but I want to get a Spector to phase out the former bass with awesomeness. Also, I could pretend to be Dan Briggs... I've got half of Selkies worked out but that's all so far.
I've never played a warwick actually, you a fan?

ah those ibanez's are fucking sweet man, sooo versatile im considering getting one, and yeah i love warwicks. So smooth to play, the tone is perfect for nearly everything plus they look gorgeous.
the only thing that lets it down is the weight, after 40 minutes my back starts to kill aha, its worth it though.
spector, dont know if your a fan or arif from pth but doesnt he use them?

Warwicks are the whales of bass.

Both Briggs and Arif MRaifsdlha use Spectors, yeah - I've played one once or twice and have fallen in love. But I'd rather not be
hasty and not give Warwick the time of the day... I should try out a five string model.
If by whale, you mean, super heavy... then you haven't played a Rickenbacker bass... I swear those things are made of aircrafts
and walruses.

Warwicks look/sound cool. Have one myself.
|

word Shuggah is a bass player as well. fucking guy.
Ricky's are really that heavy? i think it's mahogony, but i would expect it to be like a Les Paul in weight.

Yeah... and Ricky's are so tone-specific, you have to really want one to get one. Their guitars are a different story, you could easily replace any semi-hollow body comfortably with a Ricky guitar.
|
| |
true, they're a bit of an acquired "taste." both their guitars and basses look great, i might add.

i dont think i could handle one, id love to try oneday.
being left handed severely reduces my chances of getting to play most basses.

I'll get one eventually...they're pretty awesome...
lol now they need to make fretless guitars! THAT would be insane....

The only downside I can think of for a warwick is the weight. It's a pain in the arse to haul that around, but so worth it. fretless with no lines is the way to go.
I also want a Rickenbacker, but money is...problem...

Headbang, they do have fretless guitars out but, as you know, not as production models. i know there are a few famous guitarists out there who play those guitars.
