If you want to be lead down the path to Opeth, borderline homosexual fanboyism, than by all means.......

i like how you say homosexual fanboyism as there is more truth to it than you'd want, seeing as you dislike the female vocals in coil haha
haven't listened to this in ages. should get on that

Oh did you just out me? hahahaha I forgot about those comments.
I don't know, I think I raise a good point when I say that female vocals in metal are used as a selling point instead of something unique. That's my only concern with "Coil". It's just been done before and I expect something more from Opeth.
Yes, you should get on this album ASAP. By the ways, you should add me to facebook so I can talk to you more then once every couple of months.

i know what you mean with 'female vocals in metal' but to me this doesn't sound gimmicky at all. and it's actually unique for opeth at least, as they haven't done that before. and so what if it has been done before. does that mean they can't include it at some point. besides that, it only serves as an intro; no mainstream/marketing purpose here.
just admit you aren't fond of female vocals in general ;)

Hahahahaha actually, I've come along way since that comment was made. I do enjoy female vocals once in a while, but when I hear "Coil", I've just heard it before and it simply doesn't interest me. Yes it's unique to Opeth, but metal bands have brought in similar sounding female vocalists so many times to help boost sales. Generally for the most part, it's sounds forced and doesn't go well with the music at all. Fortunately for Opeth, they have the beautiful sound that could mesh well with the 'right' female singer.
I know, I use that argument alot (I've heard it all before) but it's how I evaluate music. Sure, you can argue that the genre of music I love the most (metal) drives at the same notes all the time, but it's the subtelties I enjoy the most about the genre. You look at the albums I love and you will see that every single 5 I give represents that thing I look for the most in metal.

yea i've noticed you listen mostly to metal, with some exceptions. whenever i see you posting here it's under metal; makes me think 'wizard the metalhead' haha jk. but i'm with you on the 'thing that i look for' in music. some of the more interesting and exciting aspects of the music i listen to is actually found in metal or 'extreme music', so yeah

I do listen to other types of music but metal is just the most intesting genre to listen to, period. Rock is boring for the most part, rap has never done a thing to me (just poetry if you ask me), pop is like eating a shit flavoured sundae (sweet with absolutely no substance), jazz is cool when I'm stoned, etc.

Hahahahahah there is no other way of explaining it, it just doesn't fit Opeth's male/feminist sound.
I do like a few female vocals here and there. I more prefer them as background sound...ie. listen to Burst's 'Flights End' off Origo. The female vocals utilized as background ambience is simply mesmerizing.

There were female vocals on that album? It's been a while since I've given it a spin.
Edit: Is that the instrumental, tribal sounding song with the woman humming in the background? Because that is exactly what I'm talking about. This Message Edited On 04.12.09
