Porcupine Tree being called the "modern Pink Floyd" is something I remember ringing out ever since the early 2000's. Strangely enough I'd never thought about Pink Floyd when listening to this band, maybe outside of their first 3 albums.
Funny comparison though, yeah I guess I enjoy this more than DSOTM as well hahaha

I’m not sure i would go so far as to compare the two bands directly—aside from some obvious influences, porcupine tree is pretty different from Pink Floyd, but i would maintain the comparison between DSOTM and FOABP in that they’re both speaking on the experience of social isolation in the context of their time. That and they’re both continuous pieces of music but that’s more of a general similarity to ‘70s prog
