This is where it all started for me with this band and melodeth in general. A stonewall classic. Nothing to separate it and Character anymore though

Damage Done is best agreed. The Gallery is an incredible album for sure, one of my favorite DT albums, but for me it's classic like Morningrise is classic, amateur records with incredible ideas, seen through some of the most rose-tinted glasses imaginable.

???
no?
it straight up just has their most complex and interesting songwriting and coolest melodies
and even then the comparison is weird, seeing as how morningrise is easily top 3 opeth

Agreed, dude, Morningrise is best Opeth and Gallery is 2nd best DT, but they are both amateur records, with awkward transitions, amateur songwriting (for what those bands later did), and really great ideas.

Sometimes I think that the awkward transitions + amateur songwriting + great ideas combo somehow is some kind of magic potion

"amateur records, with awkward transitions, amateur songwriting"

the gallery is perfection
everything they did after the mind's i is lame in comparison

Album Rating: 4.5
False. Also Mind's I isn't that special with the exception of Insanity's Crescendo and the title track.

Both eras are top tier melodeath, albeit totally different styles
