I don't think he had a huge ego, he left Rainbow because Blackmore took them in a way that we all know wasn't the right one, then he left Sabbath which isn't egocentrism but the logical path for someone that takes music as a serious business, then he left Sabbath because he wanted to experiment with his own music, and the second time he left Sabbath was because he felt betrayed as they called back Ozzy without even noticing him, he was pretty close to his fanbase



I still remember when he came to Chile, saw a stray dog at the airport and escaped from his bodyguards just to give his lunch to the dog
