I like the dreary atmosphere of this album. Metallica was about to be criticized for streamlining too much when the Black album came out, but here they're just pretentious and dragging things out? Come on. There's some definite classic material here.

totally disagree with the review, and the production never bothered me i like the sound of this album to ANY album i own! (i guess im weird but that's the truth) it's so heavy if the production was different i don't know if i would like it as much? and i hear the bass fine on most of the tracks (it never stood out in any of their 4 album, imo) i listened to "And Justice For JASON" and it just sounds like they put up the bass too much! i hear it in the original but in that it's way to upfront.
