Say Anything does incorporate a number of different styles (alt, emo, punk, indie) into their music, but to say that pop punk is merely a "leaning" is absurd.

Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't have the sounds that I attribute to pop-punk.

Spidersong, The Futile, and Alive With The Glory of Love are pop-punk. I'll agree to that. But I think that pretty much the rest of the album is more alt/emo/punk with bits of pop-punk thrown in.

And would you say I'm crazy for thinking that Belt has some prog moments?

duh
|
| |
in defense of the genre i would say that yeah this is mostly pop-punk
|
| |
i see what you did there. And upon listening to it more, I feel that I judged it too harshly before. Must re-listen and see how much my opinion of it has changed. But I still don't think it's pop-punk. But whatever, it's close enough. Not like calling Blue October screamo or nu-metal.

why does it matter
|
| |
Genres give me a better idea of what bands to check out, because they are going to have similar elements. It also helps me know if I should most likely stay away from a band (e.g. deathcore).

well if you're gonna spend the entire album analyzing the genre then you're just kind of distracting from the music
|
| |
It's not really something you have to sit there and analyze, it's pretty obvious (usually).
