charli has always had clunky lyrics, she just works with producers good enough that you can ignore them. I do think she leaned into it with brat and MFF though, with the angle that its 'raw' and 'real'. Call it amateur, call it lazy, you wouldn't be too off the mark.
I honestly think this is more of a cook/feane project than charli though and I really like their take on indie rock (barring rock music...)

It is definitely polarising, but happily, I'm one of the many who really appreciate it. I've listened to this more in the last 3 days than I listened to Brat in the first 3 weeks. Nothing like this out there to be honest...

I guess I personally occupy that middle ground where I don't find this utterly abysmal but I also don't feel the need to praise it for doing something different regardless of its execution.
There are good ideas and themes here (and those will always be present on a Charli xcx album), but it comes off as a draft-version that she would later polish up. And by "polish up", I don't necessarily mean that the album should have been straight-forward, radio-friendly indie-rock - but it definitely didn't need to be genre-less and demo-quality.

There is some really interesting vulnerable lyrics on this but musically it’s easily her weakest and most low effort release yet. Feels like there’s been more effort put into the marketing and packaging than most of the music. The approach of short snappy tracks is fine but ultimately makes most of this pretty forgettable to me. Like the Wuthering Heights soundtrack obviously had lots of filler soundtrack music, but better highlights than this. And I get it, after Brat, probs best for her mental health to make something lower stakes.
Certainly not bad and very listenable, just one of her weaker releases for me

Unless I get tired of it when the novelty wears off, it's actually my favourite album of hers. But having said that, I've never been a massive fan, so maybe that's partly why this appeals so much.
