I think the production sounds good, it's the mixing choices that are questionable, imho. difficult to say where one ends and the other starts these days,but it did sound better on my big ass speakers than my headphones, but that is expected. I must admit on a first listen there is not one single song that is better than the higher peaks of their previous disc, so slightly disappointed.
It is more "original" though, there is that. They will probably make more money and it seems a tiktok friendly disc with switches every 15 seconds or so. sigh. what a sentence to say in the year 2026 but that is music nowadays...

Like the album a lot. But tbh we've reached the point of "this is now too low of a tuning" note stability is absolutely out of the window and it doesn't benefit the songs. Honestly would have liked this even more if they had tuned up every so slightly so you could actually hear the notes the guitars are playing.

It’s leaner, and I actually fucking hate Revenant, and Harder to Pretend is about as plain as it gets. This album right here ^ could have potentially been a 5 tbh

To me they’ve always been a reliably decent metalcore Deftones with occasional flashes of brilliance… I dunno man they threw so much of their sound away with this thing (like to the point where when they go back on that with something like Revenant I fucking hate it) and I’m really digging it.

The production is certainly interesting, it seems intentional for whatever they were going for. Some of this almost sounds industrial, which kind of tracks given some collaborations they did earlier this decade. I kinda dig it - there's more clarity here than on I Let It In, but my biggest hangup is definitely with the guitars. I think as a full album experience and cohesive listen this one-ups I Let it In, but it doesn't match up to the emotional charm of that one tbh
