"Yeah, where does it need to go exactly?" think when people say the music doesnt go anywhere they mean theres no structural resolution or cadence or whatever the musical term is. you can have crescending passages that dont resolve. like bolero lol

this feels like a second attempt at love in the void and it's so much better

god i fucking love hammock, i don't know how they keep the consistency so high despite such regular releases.

I think we have to define "going somewhere". This album certainly progresses to beautiful places. If we're talking experimentation, then not so much.

def the most ive enjoyed something from these guys in 10 years. in general I prefer the GY!BE strain of post-rock to this stuff but the title track is particularly beautiful

i don't really think of hammock as post-rock to be honest - i suppose they technically are, but it feels very distinct from that. from a vibe perspective it feels more like shoegaze - spacious, designed to be wallowed in.

post rock often feels like a journey through structure - this isn't a journey, it's more about embracing the space you're in.

hammock is at their best when they are post rock. floating away in every direction, the air between us, while all the stars, clarity etc

It depends on the person. Some people prefer their more ambient driven stuff and their more post rock driven stuff. This is the mid tempo variety. I think I was just irritated because to say this band has been doing the same ol boring shit since basically Raising Your Voice is just asinine.

yeah my fav stuff from hammock is the more ambient stuff ala oblivion hymns, mysterium. love all their stuff though.

say what you want about hammock making similar albums, the difference is each one is extremely earnest. they ain't just throwing out another record so they can justify a tour or some dumb shit. they do it cus they love it, this is their musical language and i'm all for it. it's just wholesome watching them do what they do.

Exactly man. You said it better than I can. Sorry, I was tired and high so maybe I didn’t articulate my point very well lol

My favorite time to listen to this is super early in the morning. A had a couple days last week where I needed to be at work before the sun was up. Putting this on in the car and slowly coasting to work to get as much of this album in as possible was the highlight of my week. Both times, "Chemicals" was on when I pulled into the parking lot and the sun began to rise.
