God I’m so stoked for this fucking record. Dream Debris is supposedly 6 mins… hoping for an “Eve” style track

Yah really disagree with that take man. It’s been a big swing for me considering I think Hum of Hurt is better than most songs here and then Doom in Bloom is worse than most songs here… tbh Beyond Repair and maaaaaaybe Distract and Divide are worse and that’s it. Where Hum of Hurt can honestly hang with We Were Never the Same and Make Me Forget You. I consider all three among their very best songs ever.

I'll try to clue you in to what I hear: DIB is much more 'open' or there's more negative space that allows the instruments/Jacob to shine through. HOH is tighter or 'closed' which doesn't allow for movement and is more 'static,' almost like it's looping over itself instead of a straight trajectory through
Totally fine if you don't hear that.

No i absolutely do hear that… I think Hum of Hurt has better lyrics, better riffs, and is overall a more emotionally charged track.
I didn’t care for it the first time I heard it almost a year ago 15 feet in front of me lol

Still a solid track and doesn’t make me any less excited for the record but ya, one of their worst from these sessions imo

You'll probably find yourself returning to DIB more than HOH over time... : )
Just a bet, placed on 5/8/2026. We'll return at some point. Lol

Some of Jacob's best lyricism on here

One of his best performances all around tbh, his vocals on all three of the last tracks sound like, almost desperate and beaten down. The climax on Make Me Forget You is absolutely heart wrenching. It’s honestly fucking unreal that this dude is 50 and still is this good. And that goes for all of them I guess.
I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I think Jacob might be my favorite vocalist. Which is wild because the first time I ever heard this band like 15 years ago, I put on Concubine and thought it was as the worst sounding shit I’ve ever heard… and atp they’ve been my favorite band for probably a fkn decade now.
So stoked to Hum of Hurt. I’m honestly expecting it to be even better than this.

Agree on both the lyricism and performance. Both are savage. You both might enjoy Jacob's side project Umbra Vitae's latest release if you are longing for more.
