Overall? Debatable.

I think I would agree that it is slightly superior, though I have not listened to Asymmetry in a long time.

You just havent given enough time.
Na its far superior to Asymmetry.

I'd argue but matter of fact, Vool have never missed the mark with a longplay. Each of them is equally lovely.

Salva is fucking beautiful. Is that bag pipes at the end or a bag pipe sounding guitar tone

After a week of spinning this, I think they really nailed the lighter tracks like Conversations, Opal and Salva. LOVE Animation and Reanimation as well. Reanimation really shows how amazing it would be if this band had a guitarist with some actual guitar hero blues energy, the Govan solo was probably the overall highlight of the record for me. That, along with the "quiet like death was around" progression in Opal and ofc the bagpipes moment in Salva. Inching close to a 4.5

^ with this band's more break-down and progression based style of writing, it is funny how much Guthrie highlighted how refreshing a guitar solo can be at times. Probably also my favorite moment in the album

I hung out at Decoy Music (R.I.P.) back in 2013, and they loved Asymmetry, so it's weird to see it getting a lot of flak here. Personally, Karnivool has always been a band I have liked rather then loved, mostly due to the floatiness a previous comment mentioned,-- I'll enjoy a Karnivool album up to about the halfway mark, but eventually feel like it's just kind of there, taking up space, though I've come back to songs like "We Are" hundreds of times. Maybe it's the more streamlined nature of this new album, but In Verses has by far been my favorite Karnivool release. Even in the longer songs, each moment feels intentional. At the same time, the singer's voice hasn't aged a bit since 2013, even if his lyrics have thankfully matured from first year philosophy student who corners you in the dorm common room, to someone who has gained wisdom from living life. I really dig this!

yep, might be their best. definitely seems to flow the best and not have any duds
also this drummer is giving Aric Improta a run for his money, I mean goddamn. also the bassist is a wizard. the most impressive part about the record is the songwriting though, and I think that will pay dividends down the line
