California, SOAP, and Suffer On are great
Rest of this album can hit the bin

The whole second half is great really. California, Adrenaline and Stitch are decent and then the last 4 tracks are the 4 best on the album.
I thought the hook in Dream was annoying at first but now I'm happy everytime I hear it lol.

Unashamed to say that Dream was the first track on the album to hook me with repeat listens

This one is a total snoozer.
More of the same with less of the spark.
Actually really enjoyed their last album, too bad.

Finally got around to giving this another shot. Definitely pretty much just the same thing as their previous album, but worse.
I will say the best songs here are the more "radio friendly" ones. Their heavier songs honestly have done very little for me since Via.
I feel like they could go nearly all in on the clean singing / hook heavy style and I'd be totally fine with it at this point.

oh shit i forgot the listen to this lol. i also think they'd do better if they went full pop metal. i love bend on the last one, could easily play that on the radio.

Yup, Bend is great. Happier? also has somewhat similar vibes although it’s definitely less radio friendly.

In ways I honestly think this album is better than Happier, the songs have more staying power if you will

Futures if you liked Bend you'd probably like Worth It and Adrenaline

so..
as a huge volumes fan since around 2016, here's my experience:
1. the production is ass on the heavy parts (chugs) of this album. the tight EQ and technical chugging on VIA is defining for their sound and even could be heard on happier in ways. the beefy sloppy chuggy shit sounds bloated and not pleasant to my ears this album.
2. small moments in suffer on, the intro to SOAP, and maybe sidewinder are the only heavy parts that even work at all tbh. They just don't have the way to write heavy that is technically or energetically engaging. You know when something catches your mind's attention and you follow live. Such as Underoath's DTGL or Volumes' VIA.
3. the clean poppy stuff is decent. would've preferred an entire album of that, and nothing like suffer on/sidewinder to muddy my understanding of the vibe.
4. california is fun. bad habit is fun.
biggest gripe is them doing heavy so badly tbh.
it's not that hard to find a technically minded guitarist and just tell them to ape VIA and do some shrooms and write about mental travel, guys

I feel like Happier was their attempt at a return to form ala VIA but was a big swing and a miss. Not a terrible album but just wasn't the same, and honestly I think it's time people just move on from that era. VIA is one of my favorite albums ever and even I know that this band just will not sound like that ever again, and to be frank, I don't want them to. Happier was fine and this album leaned into the sound Happier had but just did it better imo.

Band is best now when they go full djent pop imo. Adrenaline, Dream and Worth it are best here
