this is definitely their best since hiatus. I don't know if I'll go back to it tho especially when beggars still exists

That's always been the problem with post-hiatus Thrice. It's mostly great, but their earlier stuff was unreal and truly genre-defying.

Loving the album so far, holding on is a brilliant track with some really important lyrics and the message is so strong….love it.

I don’t like the electronic elements on this really at all but when I got to albatross I was like see was this so hard? Memorable melodies, cool chord progressions, good drums, this is what I listen to this band for.

Undertow is one of my favorites after a few listens. If you told me it was a long forgotten B side from the Water EP, I’d be like “yeah that sounds right”.

Also the multiple layered bass parts on the end of Vesper Light is really fucking cool. I can’t think of another song that does that.

I just can't get into modern thrice. First 2 albums forever. Dustin's raspy voice starts to grate on me after a while.
That said, I haven't heard this yet, and I'll try to give it a fair chance

This is like a 3.2 for me. Albatross, dusk/dark glow, distant suns, and vesper light are all really great thrice tracks. Definitely showing some vheissu/alchemy index love in the compositions. Some other great moments throughout the other songs, just genuinely puzzling why some of the electronic components (ESPECIALLY percussion) sound so genuinely amateurish. They sounded phenomenal on water and air, not sure why they are having trouble connecting with them again.

Also what in the motherfuck is the point of having a 6 and a half minute closer if it goes absolutely nowhere in the final 4 minutes

Lol I thought the same thing botb. Second half of the closer is completely pointless

What is modern thrice to you if you only like the first two albums? Vheissu is 20 years old. Get over it.

After spinning this a few times, I have got to say that I like it way more than I imagined by the singles. It's a notch above H/W and Palms, but I don't like it as much as TBEITBN.

What I appreciate is that Dustin finally went back to giving some effort in writing good choruses and not only repeating a sentence a lot, like in the last few albums.

I hated Albatross when it came out as a single, but it works in the flow of the album.

Standouts for me are Blackout, Gnash, Undertow and Vesper Light

I don't really get all this criticism regarding the electronic elements; they don't sound that bad to me.

Undertow, Dark Glow and Vesper Light are excellent. I still like H/E better though, can't put my finger on why though.

H/E was a bit more experimental. The guitar work in Buried in the sun, the verses in northern lights, the darkness in still life, the electronics in robot

I think I also prefer H/E. I am not in awe of vesper light like most of you
