The me there is absolutely no doubt that this is better than Obsidian. The real question is whether or not this is better than Medusa. I think the answer lies in the bonus tracks, which I'm yet to hear.
Don't think it will top The Plague Within though.

Oh god, this album kills Medusa for me. I didn't rate Medusa that much, thank god it had some half decent bonus tracks. It's just too laborious. It has its moments still of course.

Where I think Medusa excels is in the "less is more" approach to songwritting. It worked wonders and provided an amazing atmosphere to the songs. Also the guitar tone is one my favorites.
