Agreed, lyrics are crazy good. Dark and poignant without being oversold. Auguries of Guilt gets a big thumbs up in this respect.

Captagon def might be the best here but your bottom 3 are def right alongside it for me. Auguries at last is wild but i will say, it does NOT belong on this album

I think that's just it. Auguries sounds like an Illusory Walls castoff, and while perfectly fine/pretty, it sticks out like a sore thumb here. Obliette is tough at #8 because it has one of my favorite lyrics ("Love is just loss before it happens"), but musically it doesn't do much for me. But the fact that my worst song is still a 3/5 speaks to how highly I think of this thing.

musically it and No Pilgrim aren't the biggest standouts but I just adore the vocal melodies

That's perfectly fair. That's what Illusory Walls is for though. I come here for violence 😆

Speaking of which, I redid the tracklist as a 10 song LP without Auguries and I very much prefer how this flows:

Beware the Centrist

Dimmed Sun

Se Sufre Pero Se Goza

Captagon

Reject All and Submit

December 4th, 2024

Dissolving

No Pilgrim

Obliette

For Those Who Will Outlive Us

Honestly, I can get behind any song here as the best. Other than Auguries. If that's your favorite, you don't really like this album and just wish it was Illusory Walls ;-)

Auguries is like the perfect penultimate chapter-closer before the finale, 100% belongs here

Yeah I'd fight for Auguries to be on this. Even though it's proggier and a little closer to Illusory Walls, it fits thematically with this album more than it would with that one. And it's a nice groovy powerhouse before the mammoth that is "For Those Who Will Outlive Us".

Haven’t listened yet but I don’t think they’ll ever make a song that comes close to topping getting sodas. I’m not sure how many if any members from that era are even left. This review does make me want interested to check it out though! I liked that weirdly hardcore song they put out a while back.

I see your Getting Sodas and raise you the 2 closers from Harmlessness, which are the 2 best emo songs ever written
