Yeah this lacks a song like Gods, The Summoning or Vore where the heavy stuff isn't just a payoff/climax but the main structure of the song.
That being said the ending of Infinite Baths is pretty fucking mighty while also being a cool callback to how the first song starts (I'm a sucker for stuff like that).

Opener did not have to be 7 minutes long, could have been 10x better if it were a third of the length

Drummer is reliable as always.

Yeah the opener has such a great buildup and payoff...and then it just continues with again this fixation on trap beats that bring nothing of value. Song gets good again after that and closes strong but still...whyyyyyy
|

Why this band chooses to opt for generic ass trap beats with a drummer this good beggars belief

Because it's InNoVaTiVe to have trap beats with heavy guitars

Yeah II deserves a better band.
Gave this another chance after skimming it last night and the closer is actually pretty good. Everything else just makes me nod off, and Caramel is straight up cringe.

Yeah caramel might be the worst song these guys have done yet. Knocked loose did reggaeton-core already and they did a far better job at it too.

Infinite Baths definitely my favorite here as well. I've learned to appreciate Caramel but that's with trying my best to ignore the lyrics.

^ seconded Infinite Baths.

Actually scratch that I just remembered Are You Really Ok off TMBTE and that's still their worst.
I'll see if Infinite Baths is any better but I haven't enjoyed most of this bands output for the past 3 albums. Their debut EP is still their best imo.

Halfway through the first spin and I am immensely bored. I haven't checked the clock while listening to an album this many times in a long time.

just having it on the breakdown doesn’t count

i'm one of the few people who didn't think TMBTE was as offensive as it was made out to be on this site (i have it at a 3.5), but this new one is totally boring and devoid of the high peaks of TMBTE while still retaining the cringe lows.
this one's a miss for me.

I gave it a few spins and nothing really grabbed me. Its just boring and bland which could be due to it sounding AI-generated at times.

Since sleep tokens music sounds very contrived I wonder if they didn’t just say fuck it let’s just make music to try and sell as many records as possible. It’s certainly working for them.

Nah I can't even be generous here tbh. This is boring as fuck.

i'm already being generous because these song structures can work on paper for me (why else is post-rock in my pie?) I just feel like they're done better elsewhere

This is definitely a step down in almost every way from their previous effort. Nothing happens for such long periods of time; it's just the same contrived trap beats with Vessel's warbling and a sprinkling of chug-a-lugs here and there. The sparks of creativity are quickly doused by sheer boredom.
I actually got a little excited from the first half of Look To Windward. What a bait. It's amazing how they manage to put together almost an hour of music that goes nowhere and does nothing the entire time.
