Amethyst is very sunbather coded to me. The guitar reminds me so much of it. Like Amethyst and Winona make me feel such Sunbathin energy. Would not say it’s OCHL at all.
As for the incidentals. I can take them or leave them. To me they just seem like extended intros for the songs that come after them. So it’s kinda like listening to the song without the incidental before it might up the replay value for Doberman and Winona for instance. Incidental 2 functions differently. I quite like it. The heaviness was unexpected. But yeah incidental 1 and 3 are like a convertible top to me. Can take them or leave them. Don’t really hurt anything with them being there.

Album is incredible. I think Sunbather still tops it for me, and it’s a fight between this and NB for second place. I think overall I prefer their longer, epic, multi-suite song style, but this album shows they can do both, and masterfully at that.
I’ll be very curious to see what they follow this up with.
Doberman is off the chain, yo.

I’m not a huge fan of the band but holy shit this album is perfect. The production is flawless and each song has its own life line. Doesn’t sound “samey” at all. The genre bending is so sexy. AOTY contender.

I’m not into black metal, so I won’t rate any higher than 4, but there was enough that I enjoyed on it, that I can justify giving it a 4. If it wasn’t being raved about, I’d go lower, but it’s hard to justify giving it a bad rating just because it’s not something I enjoy when it’s raved about like this, it’s not fair to them.

Who gives a shit? Lol rate it whatever you want. You might get flamed but who cares? That's a bad way to go about rating stuff.

I’ll get flamed by the BM overlords but Judah isn’t even close to this for me. Sunbather and NB have arguments though.
“I get breaking up the madness but I don't need em lol.”
Hilariously I agree with this SO HARD, and yet here it’s actually appreciated haha. 99.9% of the time I abhor interludes and think they’re a waste of space and have complained in multiple threads about this haha. But here I like them

I love interludes especially in a longer album like this. Great way to transition to different "acts" of the story so to say. The Incidentals here rule.

I don't mind interludes but here they just get in the way imo.

I think they only get in the way if its some dumb distracting skit but that's just me

Venin I agree with that, especially within concept albums. But when it’s a heavy band that throws in a 50 second track of pad swells to break up their heavy I’m like foh

An interlude gets in the way for me when its largely consistent of meandering nothing/droning or is too long. I listened to the last Aquilus record and it was peppered eith instrumental interludes between long 15+ minute tracks and it made that bitch drag
