ngl I haven't the foggiest re what it actually is (probably not Bolt Thrower tho, lol)

it’s basically what this band is. noisy black/death that leans more to death metal but with like 100% blast beats.
think like archgoat and revenge and conquerer and blasphemy.

yeah, that just confirms I have no clue because I'm unfamiliar with all of those, haha. Thanks for the info
I would've just said "blackened death" before realising, as I wasn't aware there was another specific subcategory

I just thought war metal was metal about war. I didn't know it was an actual genre lol

it’s one of those metal archives internet micro genres that somehow caught on to give basement dweller metalheads another set of aesthetics to argue about.

im glad it exists though because if something is tagged as war metal I instantly know I won’t like it lmao.

war metal = bestial black metal = deathened (lol) black metal
It is super intense, seemingly chaotic death metal infused black metal.
Much more bass heavy than typical black metal.

Yeah I'm not huge on war metal either other than Blasphemy and a few others. Definitely not a genre to overdose on lol.

I thought you were joking, because band name gave me folk vibes. But there is in fact is such band that went from metalcore, through deathgrind to war metal. I will check it out. Their last LP seems popular and high rated.

lmao @ Bolt Thrower. I didn’t expect that to go over anyone’s head tbh. I always say, when describing it to people, that war metal has a significant grindcore influence as well. Essentially a specific type of “blackened deathgrind”. I just love how “Fuck you” it sounds. I haven’t listened to Of Feather and Bone or Tetragrammacide so I’ll probably check out those next.

I've kinda always thought of war metal as death metal played with the attitude of second wave black metal.

I wouldn't say there's that much "war metal" in Of Feather and Bone to be put in the same basket as previously mentioned bands, or anywhere near Teitanblood in terms of sound / music
For newer names I think of Abysmal Lord, Blasphemophager, Proclamation, Caveman Cult, Demonomancy from Italy, Bestial Raids, Weregoat and so on, instead OFaB would fit more e.g. in Dark Descent's roster rather than next to these
