Draculae indeed best track on the record
|

it’s good but it’s a little too ballady for my taste. they were definitely targeting the nymphetamine style gothic rock fusion sound.

Not a bad album. The female vocal songs are the best songs.

"it’s good but it’s a little too ballady for my taste. they were definitely targeting the nymphetamine style gothic rock fusion sound."
yeah that's how i feel - that era (nymphetamine - thornography - godspeed) just isn't my bag overall. i would say it's a more refined take on that so i def see why people love this.

Albums slays. Ex Sanguine Draculae is my favorite on the album so far, THE RIFFFFFFSSS
Side note: Those last four albums have been amazing. I'm really glad the band is having a renaissance of sorts as I always had a soft spot for them.

The Hawks enthusiasm for this band is infectious as fuck but the fact remains the riffs are undeniable

Years 0-10 - derided
Years 10-20 - written off
Years 20-30 - essential
That is some career trajectory

They’ve always been a more interesting listen than others over the 30 years I’ve been listening to em. Melody atmosphere riffs songwriting a cut above. The last trilogy was an amazing comeback from the classics of the 90’s early 00’s. My second favorite band of all time.
With this one, the guitars sound great, drumming’s great all round excellent execution but the songs not hitting like the last 3 yet. Early days.
Last spin 3 songs stood out Trinity of Shadows, Malignant Perfection and When Misery Was a Stranger (as opposed to My Friend of Misery)

I don't know man I like the middle period best cuz that's when I discovered them. Even after listening to their early and recent stuff I'm like "give me the death of love verse chug"

Agree this has a nymphetamine godspeed feel about it except Malignant Perfection is an Existence is Futile cut with a From the Cradle to Enslaved intro
