The middle section of this album really carries the overall, but I must admit it is growing on me

That opening of Frogs isn’t half familiar.

It’s identical to something that for the life of me I can’t remember.

Anyway. Class album.

It's funny how the density of their recent records over the past 10-12 years make this feel nearly accessible in comparison. It's still such a concrete mix of sorrow but the glimmers of hope (and drums?) make it seem like a pop album sometimes compared to its predecessors. Great record. Love you, Nick

I found it to be a bit bland/flat, with the exception of couple of songs, but it sounds soooo much better live. the concert was so beautiful and emotional, truly a cathartic experience every time I see them. this was the setlist:

Frogs
Wild God
Song of the Lake
O Children
Jubilee Street
From Her to Eternity
Long Dark Night
Cinnamon Horses
Tupelo
Conversion
Bright Horses
Joy
I Need You
Carnage
Final Rescue Attempt
Red Right Hand
The Mercy Seat
White Elephant
Papa Won't Leave You, Henry
The Weeping Song
Into My Arms

agreed that this isn't a standout Cave record, but made for an absolute revelation live. caught him at the O2 with the same (godly!) setlist and was blown away, even from the shittiest seats in the balcony. t/t in particular was vastly improved from the studio version, show really kicked off in its second half

If I ever saw Into My Arms live I think I’d grizzle.

It’s on me wedding video.

yeah, that’s an admittedly rather appealing set-list despite me being somewhat lukewarm to this one

Tupelo is a great (surprising?) inclusion. A lot of artists with vast discogs abandon their much older material. Papa into Weeping would finish me

I grinned from ear to ear and clapped my hands like a five year old when he announced Papa Won't Leave You Henry ngl

think I Need You (solo piano version) into Carnage (exactly as on record) was the overall standout for me, but shit damn there were many highlights. Jubilee Street had a full rock band blowout finale and set up From Her to Eternity just right — peak brimstone all over that one, amazing how intense his performances are this many decades into life

Bought this today on vinyl.

A stunner of an album. I prefer it to Skeleton Tree.

The sleeve is some absurd reinforced cardboard nonsense though that makes reinserting the lp a right old rigmarole

everything good and not good about this one stems from it unashamedly being an album for soft gits

probably plays a similar role within his nu-era to the one The Good Son played in his 90s run idk
