Oceania's mix of absolutely, bafflingly stupid bullshit and really good riffs is almost as wild as its colossal jump in quality from the Teargarden stuff one year before. and then they did the same jump in reverse when they got around to Monuments lmao. just a wild few years for this band that was

Yeah listened to Oceania in full for the first time in years the other day, found it remarkably solid

This is pretty good, but the vocals drag it down unfortunately. I feel both the vocal performance and mixing are subpar.

The first time I encountered Samson theory in music is when Bon Jovi went from bad to awful with Keep the Faith.

Please explain.

After taking a longer hiatus, Bon Jovi returned with a new album & sound with their Keep the Faith album, galvanized by the new haircut of the singer, JBJ. He lost his “iconic” hair, and the band went from hair-rock to hairless-pop, peaking in the ever annoying “Bed of Roses”. This is my first memory of realizing how much hair matters in these matters. Before they were just bad imo, but with this move they reached the bottom.
That being said, I don’t think Corgan’s powers were in his hair, but I wouldn’t dare taking a guess about their whereabouts.
