Team Loveless here - discovered retrospectively but Top 10 album all time for me. Come back to it at least once every month or so.

@Doof I've lurked long enough to know that it's all in good fun (for most folks). Now that I'm much older than when I first joined it's a lot easier to let things slide off my back and not get riled up over nothing lol

‘Bunker Hill’ is just perfect
This could have the best closing pairing of the year

"I've never really connected with Souvlaki - prefer Pyg and their newer releases to be honest."
Pyg is their best. Souvlaki is easily second tho. S/T EP is third.
and yeah the best Beach House can't compare to the best Slowdive, but it can usurp this band quite handily (Dep Cherry can anyway)

"Wait is this a different album"
lol yep, well if you really listen to the lyrics you can tell at least (and they're more off-putting than the s/t by a decent margin)

Bunker Hill IS perfect, and Ambien's not far behind.

5 + Souv/Pyg/s-t are most definitely the top 4. Internal order + order of the rest are unimportant so long as that cutoff is observed

mmnh this is repellant

I do think people are maybe comparing this to the wrong bands because I feel 'intention' is more important than strict genre.
As said before I feel this is going for something closer to 'superior background music' like a Rhye, Ry X, S Carey, maybe Beach House at their very most floaty and yes, background music'y.
Bringing up bands like Slowdive and MBV feels off really. Just my take, don't kill a man over it.
I really feel this band hit the targets they set, they nail their intentions, so critiques along the lines of 'not Radiohead' or 'all the same!!' are a head scratch. It's like those other background'y bands where all their stuff sounds similar, their intention was not to diversify the portfolio, they're trading in gold. Just gold. This is gold.

I dunno I find the vocals unbelievably annoying, this would fuck with my serenity if it was background music

we're sad we're bland we're horny we're almost certainly a disappointing partner we're out here transcending genre in the year 2024
"they nail their intentions"
this is part of the problem yes
"critiques along the lines of 'not Radiohead'"
not even sure whose mouth you're trying to put words in anymore
|

@fogza didn't make it through this because the ASMR vocals felt like they were molesting my brainstem

'not even sure whose mouth you're trying to put words in anymore'
the people mentioning Slowdive and MBV in this thread ?
I think I'm at the point there's two other users who seem to like this also trying not to drown in this thread and that's my takeaway, I'll cling to that
|
| |
I find Beach House repellent too fwiw but yeah bloodless flabby disaffected asmr sex soundtracks is definitely not a vibe I want to keep spending time in
