Thanks, I have a feeling I’ll prefer this band being a bit rawer

“technically impressive, but it moves me not! nothing feels on the line”
and then you mentioned ISIS and post, are you saying they are also not a ‘feels’ band or that it hasn’t been replicated? Because yeah, if you’re struggling to extract emotion from one of the greatest examples of metal being more than just heaviness and technicality, then this will be a hell of a struggle for you generally
depends on one’s perspective of course, but if emotion is what you’re looking for, then yeah I wouldn’t recommend Ulcerate. Other bands do that side of things way more convincingly, even in recent times

This album isn't venturing enough to feel fairly distinctive to Stare, i think the band is creatively cornered at this point

Demon - ISIS were great, epic music done with emotion for sure
I’m not saying they’re technically that similar at all except I feel there’s been a tonne of ‘epic’ metal of varying genre distinctions that more or less feels atmospherically/tonally the same to me.
A long way of saying this just felt really familiar to me

I'll be blunt with you guys. The facts that band is not progressing or not doing anything new is not the problem if they're just doing their usual thing really damn good. I'm really glad Ulcerate is not going the path of many other bands like Gojira, that went astray.
I'm not so bored with music I like yet to complain that Ulcerate is Ulcerate.

Ulcerate sounds like Ulcerate, there are quite a few copyists around and they don’t venture too far outside of their own box, but to me this ‘box’ is entirely of their own making.
Then again, I’m also slightly tiring of their sound by this point, but not because they sound like *insert other atmo-heavy metal band*

With respect but no. This is not only among their best work but also have to agree that its among their most accessible due to the post-metal influences. Getting into this band via Of Fracture and Failure or even Everything Is Fire is much tougher.

I guess it depends where you come from... But I sure think this is their best album.

Well, everything they made from Shrines onwards is relatively accessible.

This is a band that I've tried really hard to get into but just can't. Gave this album an honest chance and while I love the instrumentation, the vocals ruin it. They sound so repetitive and they are way too quiet in the mix. Maybe I'll try some of their earlier work and see if there's something there for me.

His tone isn't too varied for sure but I think he has wild projection which really adds to the CATACLYSMIC atmosphere

Don’t people get tired of agreeing on everything? I think the album is simply “okay” and people are acting like I burned their favorite restaurant down lol

lol, didn’t realise this thread wasn’t the main review, only just seeing that after reading the comments
Presumably one of the staff / contrib crew dibbed it and we will be blessed with a counter-argument in due course
