The first EPs they released are closest to this record I believe. There was some Interpol worship on those and it was weird to hear that stuff after Brutalism or Joy. The same feeling I had while listening to this record, weirdly soft for them at times. They do angry a lot better and more interesting

I think they’ve played out their angry stuff actually - if they can’t mix it up I’d suggest they hang it up

This appears to be following the familiar path of a latter-day Biffy or Muse thread, except I imagine Flug might eventually be lonelier here

I actually went to check out the Welcome EP, which I had never heard, and they do the pop/post punk revival vibes better there than what we get here. 26/27 is actually a pretty great song before the kinda cheesy end section. Yeah, the Strokes/Interpol worship is in full effect but it’s still solid stuff.

I tried to listen to this with an open mind, but nope, it really is hard to go through without thinking you could be better off jamming literally anything else.

The more serious songs are funny when they're juxtaposed against the sound of the vocalists accent. I can't hate it too much because you can tell they put the effort in to make it sound good, it just doesn't pay off most the time. Gonna check their other albums with this album in mind, see the differences.

sounds about right lol

Hmm. Expected this to be trash based on the avg. should have known not to trust yall. It’s no “Joy” for sure, but overall I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t pretty good.

I'm liking about half of this a fair bit, definitely some awkward moments though
In particular some of the choruses let the side down

their whole discog is filled with awkward moments largely due to the frontman so I don't feel like that's anything new tbf. I do like a lot of the mixing on this, which I get the vibe is why a lot of people aren't liking it
