I need a few more listens. I was feeling insta 5 before the last 2 tracks. It kinda smoothered that feeling onwards, but we will see. The opener, even if clumsy here and there, is pretty damn beautiful

Cedar Skeletons is immense, god damn. That one-two punch with Winter’s Ghost is one helluva way to open a record.

Heard some clips from this, sounds pretty great. Like the album Saor should've made last.

The transition into the first black metal explosion I also feel could have been done better. Its too abrupt and you can tell that its two pieces of music recorded at wildly different atmospheres clashing. Which might be the point I guess. Either way its literally the only thing that makes me scratch my head this whole record which is otherwise a magical moment in time for 75 minutes straight.

Huh... I actually loved that abrupt first black metal explosion. Maybe cause my life is full of such abrupt changes but who knows... Everyone is talking about Winter's Ghost, which is probably the best track as a whole in here, but for me the real highlight is the first half of the closing track, it's probably one of the best folk/black/post-metal blends I've ever heard. Cedar Skeletons is actually still growing on me so I can see why some people here are prasing it too.
This album is so above everything Panopticon has released before I'm still in awe. It's also very Agalloch-ian in a very good way. I may bump this to a 4.5 any day.

I put this on last night and when I got to the last song I forgot what this was an thought "Am I listening to shoegaze right now?" So good.

So far above that as I'm spinin' it for the 5th time I'm 4,5ing this monster. It retains that organically unique Panopticon vibe while greatly stepping up the songwriting and overall quality which always lacked a bit for me. This album is so intense and long that it definitely requires several spins to truly appreciate as a whole. Last track is so opportune and fits everything that preceded it so well... Perfect way to end this.
One of its strongest qualities (if not the strongest) is the perfect cohesion of very different elements. One moment you are listening to the Witcher 3 soundtrack unreleased material, the next an Agalloch-ian prose masterfully delivered, then you are thrown into a Mgla like black metal passage with violins on the background and all of a sudden you end up in a shoegaze/Isis post-metal interlude only to be back again in a Martröð esque black metal frenzy; everything delivered so smoothly that your mind is confused at the strange yet pleasant taste of the plate

Yeah I heard Isis in this too. The way the music kind of builds, folds into itself, spirals down and then builds again is wonderful. The closing track is a highlight among highlights, its just that the first half of the album is a big feat to listen to in one go because of the enormous atmosphere it brings.

Winter's Ghost took far too long to get going, but maybe it feels that way because the rest of the song hasn't clicked for me yet.
