And yeah minty, Staying Gold (Slow Defeat) is fantastic, one of the anchors of the second half for me.

My first listen was spoiled somewhat by it being a low quality compressed stream. Everything came off a little flat but still lovely. Subsequent listens were so much better. This album has a lot to offer. TDDB is possibly my favourite album of all time, and like you I’m questioning if this could be objectively better, even if it doesn’t have that same special personal connection (yet). I’m blown away by their consistent ability to craft satisfying melodies.

-Songwriting is amazing as usual, Nicky's voice is top tier as always, but brotha why do the drums sound like this

-Classic Movies and Something Borrowed not even being close to the cream of the crop on this album is so wonderful, there was so much beauty waiting for me on these songs

-The lyrics are absolutely crushing in the best way

-Not really feeling the Old Time Tunes hype, it's airy to the point where all its substance just kind of blows away in the wind

-My early top 3 consists of Staying Gold, So Long Sundown, and banger of the century Our Lady Of Sorrows

-Probably won't ever considering 5ing this but it could grow to a 4.5 if the middle tier of songs (intro, Holding Back The Dark, Love Comes Around, Something Borrowed) continues to hit

just got home

i...like...i'm sure you all get this. there was a lot of hype here. TDDB is OUR album and this has been a long, long time coming. it's still surreal to say that I just listened to the new There Will Be Fireworks album.



and just...wow. what an experience that was. every song had multiple lines that just kicked me in the gut. it flowed seamlessly (2 in a row proves that these guys understand what it means to make an album more than any other artist). i just couldn't stop smiling. some of those gut kicking lines absolutely destroyed me. i don't think i'll ever forget that magical feeling I had when the instrumental faded away and we were just left with the perfect description of love in Second City, Setting Sun and then transitioning to a trademark post rock explosion with some of the most beautiful singing on the album (track might be their best?)



this was a special night. this was a special album. gonna enjoy it as best i can like i've been waiting to do all these years. it never needed to overtake TDDB and if it does cool, if it doesn't whatever. it was a more than worthy follow up and this was easily one of the best first listens of an album i've ever had
