You listen to Obliquity... and you can hear a lot of ideas that would later be fleshed out on Absolute Elsewhere. Even the escalating pinch harmonics are carbon-copied on AE. People lamented them for watering down the DM stuff but they were choregraphing that progression from pretty early on. I think what really shifted was the instrumental interludes on Obliquity, being predominantly prog and DM, changing to synth interludes on AE. I love it all though.

i'd like to hear this style expanded into an LP (oblig 33 minutes) for sure.

If I got an album full of obliquity-style BI I might just jizz myself to death.

I wouldn't put it past them to recalibrate on the next one and return a bit more DM into the mix. I think they got so influenced by Time Wave Zero that they had to push the synths in AE. But it's certainly not like their talent to write great DM evaporated. I agree, an album full of Obliquity would seemingly be the natural progression.

there's an interview where paul says they have like speed metal riffs waiting to go lol. From the way he talks about BI working toward their final/true form it doesn't sound like they're ever going to go back to their roots, but maybe a more metallic album (than this) could still be possible.

They never waited a significant amount of time. Don't think it will be that long lol.

I can’t believe I didn’t jam this before the show… I didn’t even know it existed.

Legit might be my favorite thing they’ve done. I’ve listened to it like five times today, I really would’ve loved it if they closed with the whole thing tbh
