'c&l got me instantly grabbing my duvet and falling asleep'
Wow, sounds like a hard 5 to me...
never thought of using it for that purpose, rejoicing at the possibility!

Don't really understand that comment johnny, Michigan is prolly one of his best albums to nap to but in the least demeaning way possible
I think you've all hit on my problem with Illinois, I've probably listened to it 10 times and yet I don't feel like I really know the album. I'd bet there are at least 5 tracks on it that won't even sound remotely familiar to me if I went and listened right now. thing is sprawling af.

on the other hand, michigan is a lot more focused and less...intimidating? lol
plus I'm from michigan so I automatically love the album art and it's cool seeing song titles like The Upper Peninsula and Tahquamenon Falls

The only reason I haven't napped to Michigan is that I literally heard it for the first time last night lol - defs up for squeezing in a doze to it
And yeah agreed, v much appreciate how much of a relative centre of gravity Michigan has compared to Illinois or Adz. C&L also strong in this respect, and this too ig (though has fewer individually engaging songs - you come for your 3 highlights and take whatever you get along the way)

I did like this more when it was playing in the background, than when I did a headphones check yesterday. It was genuinely quite affecting at a safe distance, beautiful even
Now I'm not sure how to feel, as it may be slightly uneven
Needs further contemplation while I polish me butt. Javelin

Liking Michigan but not liking Illinois is fucking wild when they are basically sister albums

"he's a pretty brutal case-in-point that all the talent/imagination/tragic backstory in the world isn't enough to elevate tepid indie folk if you play it straight"
Nah you're so wrong here Johnny
He is literally a case-in-point that talent and backstory CAN elevate a simple indie folk album, hence why so many people love him and his albums

wouldnt really call a lot of it tepid anyway, zombies, t/t, chicago, jacksonville etc are all rather exuberant

"much appreciate how much of a relative centre of gravity Michigan has compared to Illinois or Adz"
What do you even mean by this? Michigan is better because it's more uniform? That's precisely what makes it so boring. And how are people acting like Illinois is this insanely bloated triple LP - it's a whole 8 minutes longer than Michigan and it houses far better songs. Idk, weird takes itt
