I feel like the production felt a bit thicker on the EPs but honestly after a few listens its not so bad

what is the point of having Flo Mounier in your band if you make the drums sound bad? the general sound doesn't highlight any of the strengths of the musicians at all.
He's a total waste of talent on this album.
Modern dm has been great in the 2020s.
Should have worded that better......modern as in the boring, glossy production with little in the way of interesting.
I got a buddy in his 40s who's a massive cryptopsy fan theyve been his favorite band for 25 years he bought the debut the day it dropped. He's a full on cryptopsy nut. He gave this a spin today and told me "eh it's alright" that's all I needed to hear lol. I prob won't even bother
I go back to about 98-99 with my first taste of these guys. That being said, they should have changed the name of the band a long long time ago as they represent nothing of the talent back then.

Wizard dropped by and started sending some coffins as usual. He then left like it's just business.

This was better than I expected. A bit unmemorable at times but overall solid.

Not as good as the Tomes for me, so the average is about right imo. Certainly Matt’s best vocals with these guys for sure, too.

I'm so glad to see so much love for the tomes. Spread the word frens

i think the problem with this is that it came from a band named Cryptopsy. any other band playing modern clean produced techy metal releases this and it’s probably their best work, but if I go into this expecting Cryptopsy it’s just not it.
it’s certainly not bad, but I can’t imagine I’d ever listen to it again.

"If I go into this expecting Cryptopsy it’s just not it"
All of their albums sound relatively distinct from each other, but it's still recognisably Cryptopsy. People seem to have the same problem with Cryptopsy as they do with Cynic, in that they go into their newer stuff wanting something in the vein of what they were doing 3 decades ago, but the band has simply evolved since then.
I went into this expecting 2020s Cryptopsy and was pleasantly surprised.

yeah it’s really not a bad album. my only real complaint is the production.
|
| |
Yeah the production is grating even with the album's brevity. I cannot deny these riffs tho 🙌
