I didn’t question whether he put any effort, just how much vocalists in general do, given that there are years between albums and that’s a long time with a lot of room for improvement in subtle areas, like tonality and intonation. The “pretty weak” part with your misconstruence, comes off a bit grating. Do you always try to sneak in little jabs?

Torre's voice is there to add an extra punch, not necessarily be a feature event in of itself. He blends into the ballads, forces the bangers onward, or slinks into a more theatrical, sarcastic performance for this goofy hip-hop-influenced cuts.
It might not be your cuppa, but he's doing what he can/wants to do to fit their direction.
