don’t know why I’ve only just noticed, but the review summary has a typo… ‘collective’ only has a single ‘l’
And yeah, if I even understand what procedural key modulation is (I may do based on this comment) I am tentatively in agreement. It could do with a little more variety in that regard. Droning creepy ambience, without being overly saturated by those melodic parts, more ‘space’ in-between them at least.

when you hear something and you're like "HEY that's a melody in a minor key/diminished scale/whatever" and then a couple of seconds later you're like "HEY that's the same melody [or a light variation on it] but it's in a different minor key/diminished scale/whatever!" and then a couple of seconds later you're like "I get what's going on here", that's key modulation
and there's nothing inherently good or bad about that, but I do think that these guys rinse and repeat it (hence procedural) to a somewhat grating extent given how contorted and atmospheric this record sets itself out to be

Yeah. Sounds about right to me then. No, it certainly isn’t an inherently negative aspect, just perhaps overly relied upon in this instance idk

"don’t know why I’ve only just noticed, but the review summary has a typo… ‘collective’ only has a single ‘l’"
It's official, I'm getting senile. An additional l is on the way.
Thanks for the heads-up

there's zero prog to be found on any of thanti releases

I mean, I may be missing something here but they have clearly some parts that don’t stick to strictly 4/4 time and some parts where the rhythms just freak out. So I don’t think it’s completely unfounded to say that there are progressive elements here. It’s not cheesy like a lot of prog can be, though.

what if I told you it's not just prog that has non-standard time signatures

Album Rating: 4.5
I mean, sure. But I think it’s fair to say all kinds of music can have elements that could be aptly described as “progressive” in the loose, boundary pushing and stylistically eclectic spirit of the term. Pop or rap or anything. Like a lot of these dissonant metal bands have progressive qualities even though I wouldn’t run around calling them “prog metal”. Like it is metal and it is progressive, but it’s not “progressive metal” in the sense that it conjures the same feeling as whatever bullshit djent band. Maybe I’m just advocating for a broader interpretation of the term.

you are talking about an adjective that can describe anything
pika is talking about a genre that has relatively fixed terminological connotations
get out there and tag charli xcx as prog metal or perish for your beliefs
